Client Background

Furniture Outlet is one of the UK’s leading furniture retailers, known for its carefully curated showrooms designed to inspire customers. Creating a comfortable shopping environment is vital to customer experience, directly influencing dwell time and purchase decisions.

The Challenge

The first-floor mezzanine presented a dual climate challenge:

  1. Cold Winters: The open space lacked adequate heating, leaving it cold and uninviting during the winter months.
  2. Hot Summers: The elevated position caused heat to build up during warmer months, making the area stuffy and uncomfortable.

The client needed a discreet yet effective solution that would blend seamlessly with the modern décor while providing year-round climate control.

The Solution

After assessing the space, we recommended installing 2 x Fujitsu ceiling cassette systems. These versatile units offer both heating and cooling capabilities and can be tailored to fit the aesthetics of commercial spaces.

Why Fujitsu Ceiling Cassettes?

  • Dual Climate Control: Efficient heating in winter and cooling in summer, ensuring comfort throughout the year.
  • Aesthetic Compatibility: Black fascias were chosen to complement the mezzanine’s modern design.
  • Energy Efficiency: Featuring high SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) ratings, the systems offer significant energy savings over traditional heating and cooling methods.

The external units were installed on a nearby flat roof, located conveniently close to the internal cassettes. This proximity allowed us to minimise pipework length, which improves system efficiency and reduces installation impact.

Installation Process

  1. Planning & Preparation:
    • Identified optimal positions for internal and external units.
    • Ensured the new system would evenly distribute airflow across the mezzanine.
  2. Installation:
    • Fixed system supports to the primary ceiling structure.
    • Installed threaded rods from which the ceiling cassette units were suspended.
    • Cored through the building fabric to allow for discreet pipework connections.
    • Mounted external units on the flat roof, ensuring minimal pipework and efficient operation.
  3. Testing & Commissioning:
    • Vacuumed and pressure-tested the pipework to ensure no leaks.
    • Released the refrigerant and conducted a comprehensive function test.

Challenges & Solutions

  • Aesthetic Sensitivity: The mezzanine’s modern design was a priority, so the choice of black fascias ensured the units integrated seamlessly.
  • Installation Logistics: By placing the external units directly above the mezzanine, we significantly reduced the required pipework, saving time and costs.
  • Minimal Disruption: The installation was scheduled during off-peak hours to ensure no disruption to store operations or customer experience.

The Outcome

The new air conditioning system delivers reliable, year-round climate control, creating a consistently comfortable environment for both customers and staff. The black fascia units blend perfectly into the existing décor, maintaining the showroom’s sleek appearance.

Key Benefits:

  • Enhanced Customer Comfort: Improved temperature regulation has increased customer dwell time.
  • Energy Efficiency: Reduced reliance on portable heaters in winter and inefficient cooling solutions in summer.
  • Cost Savings: Lower energy consumption due to high SEER-rated units.
