Air source heat pumps work by absorbing heat from the air outside your premises and delivering it to radiators, underfloor or warm air heating systems.

Recent technological developments mean they can now work with outside temperatures as low as -15°C. They do use some electricity to run, but not for heat generation, which could significantly lower your business’s carbon emissions. More and more businesses are recognising the importance of green credentials to reassure clients, while at the same time it’s vital to ensure your staff and customers are comfortable when they’re on your premises.

These are factors which can positively impact your bottom line. But it’s not just about investing in customer goodwill and the future of the planet. Air source heating could also cut your fuel bills drastically.

Money-saving

Analysis by McKinsey suggests that up to 30% of the energy bought by your businesses may be wasted. How much you save will depend on what type of heating you’re using now, how old it is and which alternative you choose. It will pay for itself much more quickly if it’s replacing an electric or coal-fired heating system, particularly if it’s older-style central heating (pre condenser boilers). Your business and premises size and type, and what measures you have taken to minimise heat loss, are of course also significant factors. And if you have multiple sites, not only does this provide the opportunity for considerably more savings, but we can also reduce the unit cost on installation.

Types of pump

There are two main types: air-to-water, which can distribute heat via a wet central heating system and could also heat your water, and air-to-air, which circulates warmth via fans. Your system is likely to work better if you heat your water separately, so an air-to-air solution is the smarter option, with the added benefit that it can provide air conditioning in summer. You can expect to maintain the same comfortable working temperature for around 75% less power compared to traditional electric heating.

So, cut your carbon emissions, boost your business and start saving money straight away. It could be the best business decision you ever make!
